Can anyone tell me if there is a tool to insert the chrome strips into the rubber glass surround for the GT windscreen and rear window.

Hi Peter
That tool will do the round inner rubber but I don't think it would do the 1" wide chrome strip would it .???

Re: Fitting chrome strips in the windscreen and rear window
Hi Graham
After I had sent my previous reply it occurred to me that the GTs had a wide chrome strip. I've had a look in my MGC manual (as the MGB one I have is dated before the GT was introduced) and it appears that there is the locking strip (which the tool will enable you to fit) and the finishing strip. Here are the instructions from that BMC manual.
To remove and fit the windscreen and back light glass (GT):

And a picture of the special tools mentioned underneath the title:

It mentions the inch wide chrome strip as the 'Finisher Strip' is fitted afterwards. See Para 13 of the first attachment. It would appear from this that there is not a tool to fit the finisher strip. So, some sort of hook that widescreen fitters seem to have in their toolkit with lots of neat washing up liquid might do the job....! Hopefully having a picture of the special tool 18G468 and 18G468A will enable you to fashion something suitable.
Have you already fitted the screen and the locking strip? If not the tool from Minimine will a least do that.
Apologies for the red herring!

Re: Fitting chrome strips in the windscreen and rear window
Thanks again Peter
The Rubber insert is easy to put in with the 18G468A tool, it is or was the chrome stip that was the trouble.
But thanks for the copy of the manual details.
It is a freind that is doing this, he has just had a total respray and is now putting the glass back in.
He rang me today to say that he has got the rear chrome strip in and is half way though getting the windscreen chrome in, he used a tool with a ball end.
Thanks again
Graham
