Valve rockers

Post by Dave Wheatley »

Just checking valve clearances, and I notice that some of the rocker pads do not line up with the vale stem ends. The out of alignment is 20 - 30 thou sideways.

All the washers on the rocker shaft appear to be present.

Question, are all the rockers identical, or should they have specific places on the shaft? The shaft could have been dismantled, and reassembled wrongly perhaps.

Dave,
happy to be corrected on this, but I believe all rockers are the same, and that this amount of misalignment is insignificant. It does emphasise the need to keep rockers and pushrods in their places when overhauling.

Thanks Ian. I've not noticed this before on any cars that I have worked on for the last 60 years!

I'll have closer look at the shaft tomorrow.
