Well, eventually I pulled the engine/gearbox out whilst the exhaust was still in situ, all came out very easy although to be fair I did have an extra pair of hands 🤗 Exhaust eventually came apart with the aid of heat and some — Err shall we say “persuasion”!! Thanks Pete,
The cross member position has been duly marked, photographed and checked again before removal.
Will have a go removing the exhaust system tomorrow.
Hopefully get that out then I can remove the engine/gearbox.

2ft - aarggh that means I will have to jack it up even more!! I have already removed the 6 nuts holding the pipes to the manifold so all loose. Hi Tom,
It’s the pipes, they are a one piece (sports exhaust I believe) that goes pretty much to the middle of the underside of the car!
I was wondering, if I cannot get the exhaust out could I still lift the engine/gearbox out?

I have removed the manifold exhaust studs and separated the bomb box and rear section in readiness to remove the exhaust prior to lifting out engine and gearbox, however, I have come across a problem - I cannot get the manifold and pipe out from the car!! I am very soon embarking on rebuilding the bottom end of my MGB engine.
