MGB multiple previous owners

Post by djgreen »

Following on from 'ownership longevity post' and just for fun 😉😉-- I wondered how many B's out there had 'double figure' previous owners and what is the record among this forum ?

I have just received my V5 registration doc ( sellers notification was lost in the Xmas post !) -- and I am the 12th owner of my roadster 😎

Cheers

Hi Dave
Sorry, but I can't get near your 12 owners. I am the 7th owner of my '69 roadster.
To link to your other thread about length of ownership, the longest I have kept an MGB is this one which I have now owned for just over 9 years. However in my motoring life of 56 years (so far!) I have owned 11 MGs out of 36 cars. These have been (in car age order) 1938 MG PB, 1949 MG TC (a race car), MG TD 2, 1956 MGA 1500 Coupe, 1961 MGA 1600 Mk2 Coupe, 1966 MGB Roadster, 1969 MGB Roadster (which I still have), 1970 MGB Roadster, 1969 MGC GT, 2002 MG TF 135, 2011 MG6 Magnette which I still have .
I did keep the MG TC for 20 years and in the mid late 1970s it was one of the fastest TCs racing in the UK (and for that matter in the world!).
I haven't had such brand loyalty for any other make, although I did really enjoy my MK1 RS2000 and MK2 RS Mexico (which I fitted with an RS2000 engine).
Most of my cars have seen some competition use as well - even a Renault 4TL which I did a road rally with!

I'm the 14th owner off my 1975 MGB Roadster LST74P. I have tracked back to owner no 8 who bought the car in 2001 and got quite a bit of history prior to that. At some stage it was used for racing - I suspect sometime 2011-14 as it covered nearly 2000 miles whilst being sorned and MOTed each year! I have put a page about what I have found out to date on my blog at
https://mgb.tips/my-mgb-a-brief-history/
Wish I could find out more about it's racing history.

Hi Steve,
Your blog makes interesting reading, and is a nice way to get all your car's history together in one place.
From your description of the engine mods I would doubt your car has been used for circuit racing. The mod are too extensive for the standard class and not enough for the modified and full race classes. Also there is no mention of Mr Lawson in the 'MGB - The Racing Story' book. It might have been used for sprints and hillclimbs and possibly in the MGCC Luffield (as it was known back then) Championship. I suggest you contact the Championship Coordinator and provide as much info as you have to see if the car was entered for that series. Address can be found in any copy of the MG Car Club Magazine 'Safety Fast'.

Peter
That's an impressive list- and a nice twist on 'multiple ownership' 👍👍

Steve
Great blog - it is a testament to the MGB's like-ability that so many people have owned and maintained them.
That Honest John survey is interesting - there are still thousands out there and the rubber bumper models are becoming the rarest !!

Cheers

Dave G

ps - 14th owner is winning so far 😉
