Front sidelight/indicator weatherproofing?

Post by Allan T »

Checking a failed front flasher bulb I've found both sidelight/indicator units wet inside.

Instead of forming a seal by sitting on the gaskets, the rims fit around the gaskets, in direct contact with the body.

It looks as though the gaskets are too small.

I've checked parts lists online in case there's another seal meant to fit around the rim edge, but apparently not.

Anyone else found this?

Any thoughts?

I would like to know if there is an answer to this as well. Many years of MGB ownership and I have always had water in the side lamps. I regard them as disposable items now, since they always rust internally. The bulb contact is pretty marginal at the best of times. With a bit of corrosion it is never going to work properly, particularly the side lamp. I always fit a proper earth for the unit and don't rely on earthing through the body. Are originals better than the ones sold these days? I don't know as I've never had an original set.
