Interior restoration

Post by Remyd »

I thought I'd share some pictures of the interior restoration I have been working on for the past few month.
I got rid of the classic black interior and went for a Slate grey carpet with Old English White with light grey piping leather seat and trims.
All work done by myself apart from the front seats and roof trim. I'd like to point out that I have never re carpeted anything let alone a car and no experience whatsoever in upholstering anything. Got rid of the centre console which has no place in a 71 GT, changed the pull handle and winder to chrome. Still need to order a new speaker console in the same colour as the rest of the trims and need to re upholster the crash rail and dashtop in old english white leather too. The crash rail is knackered so need to source a new one and get myself to take the dash board out to reach the back of the rail.
Interior kit from Mirror Trim.

Thanks Dave, it’s been a labour of love and hate! :D sweat blood and tears went into that.
I enjoyed the re upholstering, that capping were surprisingly easy to do with some patience and using the old fabric as a cutting template.
Also fitted struds to help lift and hold the boot cover.

Hi Remy,. with all that lovely cream leather you clearly have a taste for luxury! It will be quite a GT when you have it completed.

I do like things to look good! It works well with the car colour and I wanted to lighten up the interior as it looked too dark before. Thanks for the compliment!
