About to buy a new alternator. Workshop Manual says 16acr is the right one. Various suppliers say 18ACR.
Other than the obvious increase in output are there any advantages or disadvantages in switching to 18ACR assuming that they are physically interchangeable .

The 18ACR is longer than the 16 but the spacer takes care of that. 45 amps against 34 is an advantage but much higher output ones are available. My 1975 Land Rover uses the same version of alternator as the MGB and I found a 70 amp version. Useful for the heated windscreens.

Managed to get a Lucas 45amp output alternator from Halfords for just over £39 which is far cheaper than other online suppliers.
