Window Winder Assembly

Post by Graham Dix »

Below is a question that came to me via the MGB Register Technical Line. I thought it may be of use to others ...

Hi Graham

I replaced my quarter light assy today.

All going well until I started on the wind up window.

The screws holding the winder, glass assy and rear runner were all loosened to help with removing old and fitting new quarterlight.

Now window becomes very tight at top of travel( only winds down if I put pressure on top of window to wind down).

Also window comes out of tracks.

What is the correct procedure for the window adjustment-Haynes Handbook not a lot of help.

Hi,

No set procedure. Most important is ensuring the quarterlight is properly adjusted so that it isn’t under stress when the door is closed, especially with the hood up. New quarterlights do not all seem to have the same curvature as the drop glass so check that it is free to slide in the new quarterlight runner. Bend to suit if necessary. Once set up, the rear slider can be adjusted to have minimal movement of the glass but allowing free movement.

Hope this helps

Please let me know how you get on.

Graham
