rad fan switches on too early

Post by johnbuckley »

The otter switch on my late BGT switches the fan on at as low as 60 deg C. As this needs rectifying what is the general consensus about getting one of the ebay cheapo adjustable switches about £20. Are the cheapo fan kits which include fan and adjustable switch for about £70 worthwhile?

With respect to B series engine cooling, cheepo should not be an option. I believe the optimum cooling temperature to be 90 degrees C, with fan control at 95 degrees C. failure of the control will lead to overheating and a cracked head. Look at the Kenlow or Revotech range of switches and consider it an insurance policy.

I have found the system I use on my mark 1 BGT namely an electric fan as an addition to the engine mounted fan with a manual switch and looking from time to time at the temperature guage works well , I only need to concern my self with engine temperature in heavy traffic on a very warm day.

Yes, I wondered about that, but sometimes I forget those thing I ought not to forget.
