Fuel pipe layout

Post by Smudge724 »

Hi All

I’m new to the MGB GT world and have just bought a 1977 MGB GT. Can anyone help me with the fuel pipe layout as I finally got the pump working by cleaning the points but then found that the fuel was still not going to carbs. On looking I discovered that the carbs are not connected to any fuel line. I be most grateful for any advice on what I need to connect the carbs to the copper pipe running the length of car. There seems to be two hoses going into carbs connecting to two copper pipes that end halfway down engine !!!

take a look here

https://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?1,2973388

the long pipe from the pump connects to the braided line in the photo and then to each carb on the engine side of the float bowls. the pipes you refer to connect to the wing side of the float bowls (disconnected in this photo) and they are over flow pipes.

Hope that helps

If you are new to MGBs one of the best self help books is the MOSS parts book. It will show you what parts should be there and approximate layouts.

Here https://www.moss-europe.co.uk/parts-acc ... gbcat.html or downlaod the PDF version from their site.

I think page 48 of the parts list will give you some guidance

The pictures suggested by "Grumpy" are Ibelive for an earlier set up with HS4 carbs which is different to the set up you have with SU HIF carbs.

Hi,
My car has HIF carbs. The fuel line crosses across the back of the engine block & through the fuel filter & then comes down the side of the inner wing & then connects to the front carb. (See my attached photo taken during my recent refurbishment when the air filters hadn't been put back on.
