Wheels with standard bodywork

Post by 1340fxd »

My 1976 factory original GT V8 is used for track days and currently has the original 14" wheels with 185/70R14 tyres.

I'm thinking of 15" wheels with 195/55R15 tyres or maybe better still...

16" wheels with 195/55R16 tyres.

However, I don't want to flair the wheel arches. Has anyone tried such wheel/tyre combinations on a standard bodywork car please?

I have 15" wheels, 6" wide with 195 section tyres under standard bodywork. You won't have any trouble with the front, but at the rear you might get some rubbing, especially as the live axle is often offset to one side, and it can move sideways on its leaf springs. I have Hoyle independent rear suspension with top and bottom wishbones so the wheels are fixed against sideways movement. Even so I rolled the inner lip of the arch up, although I doubt it was strictly necessary.
