Forum Maintenance

Post by Paul Scott »

During the weekend 8-9 December 2018 important software upgrade will take place. The forum may be unaccesible for a short period of time.

I will update once this has been completed.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the update.
On a slightly different issue, do you know why pictures attached to posts corrupt after a period of time, but seems to be independent of updates so it hasn't happened over the last few hours for example. This thread of mine illustrates the problem:

Many thanks

Hi Peter,
I have found some pics have changed during the updates along the way. The pictures are stored in a very weird way.
It does appear to be an older batch of jpg's that are unreadable.

As there are many posts it is not easy for me to track all the failing or failed images. Although I do have a plan.

I am fortunate to have a backup copy back before I started messing with everything. 255 images.

Although having a quick look they do match with data size. So tricky to say which are bad.

I will have a play tomorrow.

I have now had a play and I think this has happened after an upgrade or between upgrades. But not quite sure the folder that stores these files does not get overwritten at any point.

I have re instated pics where I can but this has not fixed your example ;0(

I have also changed a setting in the background. I cannot say if it will not reoccur or not.

Sorry

Paul

I might have just fixed it Peter ;0)
I found 4 slides - bit tricky to deal with though.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for looking into the picture problem. I've looked back at many of the ones I posted and they all look fine now.
Cheers

Cool Pete

I re uploaded old pic in the hope I had them covered.

Good to hear they are now fixed.

I have no explanation as to why they would deteriate I'm afraid.

Any new ones going up will be shown at 400px as a thumbnail. Clicking on them will show the full size image.

Dear Paul
posting an avatar
I would really like to have a picture of my car alongside my name but I do not seem to be able to upload it. I have a photo with a very small file size -just 46kb, but the instructions in profile say "Maximum dimensions; width: 120 pixels, height: 120 pixels, file size: 20.00 KiB."

Sorry to be a pain-but could you post a 'tutorial' ?

Hi Alan,
Email your picture to webmaster@mgb-register.org
I can take a look for you.

Then I will attempt to advise on how to do it.

Hope this helps
