Just had a thought. Check that none of the HT leads have been disturbed and the LT leads on the coil too.
Make sure the king lead from the coil to the distributor cap is secure at the coil.
I suspect the wires you earthed are for the panel lights.

Morning Terry.
Are the wires black? That is the colour for earth wires.

Re: No vin plate no log book just a build and engine number
That should read date of build not date of registration regarding emissions.

Re: No vin plate no log book just a build and engine number
I think you'll find that the emission rates apply to the dare of registration of the vehicle irrespective of the engine. I have a 1986 engine in my 1975 Land Rover and the emissions are a maximum of 4.5 but if the engine was in its original vehicle it would be about 2.6.

Re: Petrol quality
I have to use Shell V Power in my Downton Stage 2 tuned BGT and even then it pinks sometimes.
I wouldn't use supermarket fuel as the engine is a bit fussy.
Oh for Cleveland Discol with alcohol or Esso Golden!!!!!

Re: Advice on roadside jack sought please.
Evening Pete.
There is enough room in the spare wheel compartment of my 1977 BGT for a small trolley jack. I have LE wheels on the car and have fitted the spare with the dish upwards so I can store things in it.

Re: Advice on roadside jack sought please.
I never trust the built in jacking points as the car has to be raised very high to get the wheel off the ground. Far better to buy a small trolley jack that goes under the suspension then the wheel is raised without the body going up. I've got a small trolley jack that will go under the front suspen...

Re: oil filter seal
What happens to the collar from which the oil cooler pipe runs? On my previous BGT this would drop down when the filter bowl was removed so its sealing ring had to be replaced, hence the several rings with the filter. I grew fed up of this so I converted it to spin on. My current 77 BGT has it fitte...

Re: Anybody using sigle piece rear springs?
Further to my previous posting I forgot to mention that parabolic springs have a longer travel which lever arms are unable to cope with. I had to fit longer telescopics to my Land Rover which has telescopics as standard.
