Re: Ignition light
Morning Tony. The fault would appear to be with the front indicator bulb housing. If, as you say, corrosion is present then there is a bad connection or earth. The front indicator is not separately fused and as the nearside ones work and the offside rear lights but doesn't flash the relay etc are OK...

Re: LED bulbs
I fitted LED side, rear and indicator bulbs and clear lenses to my Land Rover many years ago and no MOT tester has made any comments.

Re: Petrol quality
My BGT would appreciate a decent high octane petrol like we used to have - 101 octane. I can't find anything better than Shell V Power but it doesn't compare. Brian unleaded the head when he "Downtonized" it so I have to use what it seems to run on best. It would run much better on the rea...

Re: Rocker arms
Afternoon Tom. Adjust the tappets and then see what it's like. 3 years ago I had the head on my 1977 BGT "Downtoniized" by Downton Engineering's former ace cylinder head man. He fitted MGC inlet valves and reassured me there would be ample adjustment despite the extra length of the valves ...

Re: Ignition light
Evening again Tony. It appears that the alternator has a short circuit in the live side main output diode. As the alternator is only 8 months old it should be still under warranty so best to contact the supplier. (I keep a spare alternator for both my 77 BGT and Land Rover, they use the same alterna...

Re: Ignition light
Evening Tony It's likely the anti theft switch is wired to the low tension side of the ignition. It will be wired to one of the two wires on the coil. The way the bulb is behaving is symptomatic of an alternator fault. I'll look it up and contact you later with what the fault in is likely to be. . Vic

Re: Ignition light
Morning again Tony. According to the wiring diagram the 2 thick wires from the alternator are brown and the thin wire going to the ignition light is brown and yellow. If that one is blue then it would appear that the wiring has been messed about with. However check the ignition light bulb first. . V...

Re: Ignition light
Morning Tony.
Brown and yellow wires on the alternator are the main output ones and the blue one is the one that goes to the ignition light. 3 wires are correct.

Re: Ignition light
Evening Tony. If the ignition light does not come on when the ignition is switched on then the alternator cannot charge as the voltage through the bulb "excites" the alternator into charging. Easy to check whether the bulb is blown but if it's ok then check the small wire on the alternator...
