Underreading Speedometer.

I have noticed that my 1977 MGB GT triggers speed signs in 30 & 40 zones even when the speedometer is reading the correct speed or just below. The other day I approached one of these signs which showed my speed as 31mph. I glanced at the speedometer which showed just below 30. I slowed down and ...

Re: Fuel leak

Evening Tony.
I hope your new fuel pipe is ethanol proof as that can cause rubber to rot.

Re: Fuel leak

Morning Tony.
Park the car outside, turn on the ignition so the pump operates then have a look underneath to see if you can spot where the petrol is leaking. Does the fuel pump stop ticking or does it keep on going even with an occasional tick?

Re: Spark plug carbonisation

Evening Ian. Yes, I've experienced the London speed limits when I used to deliver there. Might be worth trying a hotter plug as it seems the ones in the engine are not getting hot enough to clean themselves. I think the number 7 NGK is a hotter version. No good suggesting a blast along the M25 as th...

Re: Spark plug carbonisation

Morning Ian.
It appears that the mixture is still too rich. What air filters are fitted and what plugs are you using? Another cause could be that the plugs are a cold variety and you need to use hotter versions.

Re: SU problem on standard set-up

Evening Ian. A very strange problem. Try swapping the dampers around and see which carburettor the damper comes undone. That should indicate whether the fault is in the damper or carburettor. I use automatic transmission fluid in my SU's. It has a constant viscosity regardless of temperature. . Vic ...

Re: Ignition light

Afternoon Tony.
Yes, that's correct.
I agree electrics can be a minefield. I managed to teach myself to deal with most problems on classic vehicles but as for modern cars I'd be scared of doing some expensive damage by just poking at something.

Re: MGB Radiator

Evening Andrew.
A recore will probably be about the same cost as a new radiator but you will have your own one back and not risk getting an inferior new one.
However, make sure the company is reputable and won't be ripping you off.
