Mine is overheating badly but it's likely to be a cracked cylinder head which will be removed soon otherwise I've not experienced any overheating. I suppose the answer would be to fit a second electric fan as per the V8.

It sounds like a slipping fan belt. Check the tension and condition of the belt and if ok sprinkle talcum powder on the pulley side of the belt.

I timed my Land Rover by ear with the engine running. It does have timing marks but I ignored them. I've no idea what the timing is but it runs extremely well and doesn't pink even when pulling from 10mph in top.

I fitted a 123 to my Series 3 Land Rover and it was absolutely useless. I set it per the instructions and the vehicle was gutless and then a misfire developed. I returned it and got my money back . Took that to be a stud.
It might be possible from underneath but there's very little room. Can you get your hand to the breather and see if it's oily?

I've had a look at the parts list and no vent is shown. Possibilities are the speedometer drive, overdrive isolator switch, reverse light switch or the front oil seal. With that amount of leakage can you see any likely place it's coming from?
