Re: Head Gasket Failure?
I've been looking at Payen gaskets on line and looking at the MGB Hive site, the bottom black, red and gold gasket in your photo is a Payen. I have an unused gasket set with that gasket and it says Payen in small writing on the packet. Perhaps I was unjustified in calling it a crummy gasket and it's...

Re: Head Gasket Failure?
The bottom gasket in the picture is the same crummy gasket as I had. The MGB Hive sell a gasket kit with a Payen gasket and that's what I'll be buying. Don't use 2 gaskets. Very odd using 2 different gaskets. Go with a Payen. Has the head been off the engine since you bought it? If not, it's a stran...

Modern Head Gaskets.
What is it with modern gaskets? The head gasket I used on my MGB when I fitted the modified head a few years ago was like an aluminium shim. When the head was removed recently there was evidence of blowing between cylinders but the gasket was intact. The cylinder head is now being checked for any cr...

The inlet valves are MGC ones.
The head was modified about 10 years ago by Brian Slark who used to be Downton Engineering 's chief cylinder head whizz.

Re: Overheating problems part 2.
I left the head with RVS Garage. They're classic enthusiasts, one owns an MGB and another a 1937 Mercedes with 24,000 on the clock (first time around). It looks like it's be blowing between cylinders although the gasket is intact. I suspect it's down to incorrect torquing by my ancient wrench which ...

Overheating problems part 2.
It's so long I posted about this I thought it best to start again. Matt an MGCC member came to assist in the removal of the cylinder head today. On first impressions it looks like my modified head is ok but after talking with another MGB owner at the pub lunchtime I've found a local business that ca...

Re: 3sync speedo
I had a non operative speedometer with my Land Rover. It was down to the cable being a loose fit in the replacement speedometer drive. A cable from a different manufacturer cured it although I suppose the speedometer drive output could be squeezed together a bit.

Re: No hazard voltage
I've had the same problem with the hazard switch. It was down to corrosion on the H shaped contacts inside iand it's dead easy to strip down. I removed mine from the dash using a very thin screwdriver to prise it out gently.
