Re: Electronic Ignition, yes or no?

I'm running with Luminition magnatronic at present. I cant say I've noticed any improvement over the points set up. With points you need to renew every 6000 miles or so, check your dwell is in tolerance and then set your timing (dynamic is best). You obviously don't have to do any of this with elect...

Re: Light knocking noise in the engine.

When I got our B in 2000 it burned quite a bit of oil, about 500 miles to the pint although the compression wasn't that bad. People complained if they had to follow me. I decided to rebuild what I could with the engine in the car. I honed the bores and fitted new rings. Although the oil consumption ...

Re: Bench test

My friend and I fitted a 123 distributor to his B and it has been excellent. We set it to curve 2 which is the original 25D curve 40897. He had HS4 (later HS6) carbs but originally had a 45D distributor which just don't go. I couldn't justify spending £270 on a 123 for my old girl so I fitted the Lu...

Re: King Pin Top Bolt

I had one side of mine that wouldn't shift. The problem is that its not firm enough for a strike from a lump hammer to shift it. No amount of soaking with penetrating oil helped. I ended up taking one of the arms off the damper and with the four retaining screws out I could push the rubber bushes th...

Re: Running on suddenly.

I would have thought a standard B series with a compression ratio of 8.8:1 would be happy on regular unleaded (95 RON) without retarding from factory settings. A lot of engines have been re- bored and had their heads and blocks skimmed so may be over 9:1 now. Certainly mine has, however I still use ...

Re: Running on suddenly.

Well done Mike. My Factory workshop manual only goes up to 1972 which is fine for my car but it means that I have to rely on Paul Hunts Bee & Vee site for data. I found the data in the Haynes manual confusing and I don't have Not_Anumbers engine number. Vic is right in that the 45D distributer c...

Re: Running on suddenly.

The 45D distributor has a radically different advance curve to the 25D and is not recommended by Peter Burgess. The early 18V engines (72-74) had the 25D. One can only presume that the 45D curves are an attempt to reduce emissions and improve economy. The other advantage of the 25D is that it has a ...

Re: Running on suddenly.

Given that your running on problem started when you changed distributors it seem likely that it is timing related. Is your vacuum advance working ? this should help stop running on. From what you say your engine runs on for a long time with the ignition off suggesting you may have a problem with cok...

Re: Insurance

I cant recall Peter Best being a director of the Car Club. He may well have been in the past but he certainly isn't now, he's a vice president. This is a honorary position with now power but I'm sure some influence. I've never been insured with Peter but have friends who are satisfied with their cov...
