Re: Leak at thermostat studs

There is a long thread running on this in the MGA section. I've had this problem on my B. Coolant gets escapes through the treads of the studs into the head, they are open at the bottom to the coolant. (not blind). As has been discussed, if you can get the studs out you can seal the threads with gun...

Re: single 12v Battery

There is an article about this on the register website :- https://www.mgb-register.org/fitting-a-12-volt-battery-to-a-chrome-bumper-mgb/ I have a type 063 in my 71 B only I had to turn it 90 deg because the positive lead wouldn't reach. You have to move the earth strap and modify the clamp. It fits ...

Re: Drive it day 2022

We did the run organised by the MG Car Club Midland Centre which started and finished in Malvern. It was a re-run of the Three counties run we put of for the MG and Triumph weekend. Well done to Bob Blackstock for a very scenic 65 mile route. We enjoyed the coffee stop at Westons Cider Mill in Much ...

Re: Strobe timing at tickover or high revs

I plotted out the curves based on the data from Paul Hunts website. If you look it comes from impecable sources and I've seen nothing so far on this thread to contradict it. You will see that there is only 20 degrees of centrifugal advance in the 25D and its all done by 2200 rpm for advance curves 4...

Re: Strobe timing at tickover or high revs

If your 18V engine has the 25D4 distributor then it should also have HS4 carbs. These have separate float chambers and the vacuum advance take off from the throttle body of one of the carbs. (not from the intake manifold) If this is the case then 41288 is the correct advance curve according to Paul ...

Re: Strobe timing at tickover or high revs

I always find that 600 rpm is too slow for a smooth idle. You end up with the strobe fluttering too much. I would recommend that you find out what the advance curve of your distributor is a try and set at 1000 rpm. This also tends to reduce the variation in timing you get from distributor wear. For ...

Re: Mgb will only run on choke

It does sound like an air leak. I had something similar on an A series engine in an Allegro. I hadn't tightened the manifold studs properly after doing a de-coke. You haven't told us the vintage of you motor, does it have a PCV valve or brake servo, are they working properly ?. They other thing I wo...

Re: Sluggish acceleration

Those who have read my previous comments on the 45D distributor will know I'm not a fan. Neither is Peter Burgess if you read his book. The 45 disi generally goes with the HIF carbs with the vacuum advance taken from the manifold. In total the 41610 curve has too much advance meaning that you start ...

All oils change viscosity massively with temperature but multigrades the least.
