Re: LH overdrive overhaul

Hi David,
I understand that some clever individuals purchase a cheap pump that they drive using an electric pump & a couple of hoses. (This beats getting under the car for hours with a litre bottle like we used to get for lawm mower oil & the oil drippng down your arm)!

Re: Modern fuel

I had a T registered Midget with a 1500cc (which would have benefited from an overdrive as i always felt the gearing wasn't long enough ) from new before the MGB .One further thought on the MGB is that if the temp rises under the bonnet when sitting in a queue, the petrol in the carb area evaporates,...

Re: Modern fuel

Hi Martin,
It is not easy to arrive at what bhp a late standard MGB should be & how it is measured (under load on a rolling road). It is worth looking at Peter Burgess's website to get some understanding about the subject.
Cheers,
Charles

Re: Modern fuel

Hi Martin I have a 1980 roadster which i have had from new. Like us all i have experienced problems similar to yours which are not necessarily caused by the same fault.i have had a waxed up fuel filter that intermittently caused poor running; carburettor pistons which clearly caused a similar experi...

Re: Battery chargers/conditioners - best buy?

Ian, I have a Ctek MXS . 5 which has been faultless for 2 years. I have recently bought the extension cable & cigarette plug ( which are expensive but well made )so I can connect it directly to the cigarette lighter socket which is permanently connected on my car & not dependent on the ignit...

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter

Vic,
it looks like your spare ignition switch is the same as mine which also has a purple wire to a spade on the side of the barrel with the other at one end of the multi - socket. (The box says part number BHM7143).

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter

Hi Vic, As far as I can tell from looking at the multi - connector it looks like brown from the main harness to brown on the lead to the ignition switch. . This seems to correspond with the late UK market circuit diagram from Haynes.Purple from the main harness under the dash goes to the horn button...

Re: Emissions :0(

Hi Paul, Just had my 1980 roadster's MOT this am.It passed with the emissions CO reading just under 3 with HI I F carbs. Last autumn I removed & cleaned the carb pistons but left the mixture screws as set from a couple of years ago even though I removed the carbs off the car ( including adjustin...

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter

Thanks Vic, I may try your oil filter next time! Over the years I have been increasingly prepared for the drips so can keep them manageable - the first time being well over 30 years ago). I only once didn't screw the new filter on straight & on start up,no oli pressure & 6 pints of fresh oil...

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter

Hi David, Peter has answered your question to me. Unless you are wanting to go for originality which would necessitate the later bracket, screw, copper washer & rubber sealing ring then you possibly have an advantage over the later type fitted to my 1980 Roadster. It is nearly impossible when chan...
