Re: Barrey cover rubber seal

Hi David, I replaced the seal on my battery cover many years ago with draught excluder which has adhesive on one side.It stopped all rattles and appeared to give a tight seal so no fumes came into the cockpit.(I have a 1980 Roadster).i have since replaced the cover altogether with a quick release co...

Re: Carb fuel overflowing

The only water hoses are one from the heater box to the pipe that runs over the rocker box to the smaller hose that joins into the larger hose that connects the wated pump port to the bottom of the radiator;the other heater box hose to the valve on the side of the engine block above the distributor ...

Re: Carb fuel overflowing

As i said on an earlier post under a different thread, before you remove the carbs to look at the float chambers it is worth removing the dash pot covers & removing &cleaning the pistons to which the needles are attached. If the rear one is sticking & therefore not falling down smoothly,t...

Re: Carb fuel overflowing

As your car is a late one, unless the carbs have been changed then they will be HIF. The float chamber is underneath rather than to the side with HS. The only way to deal with HIF floats is to remove the carbs from the inlet manifold & turn them upside down to take off the float chamber base. Bef...

Re: Electrical connection on Start solenoid

Hi Peter, On the later MGBs with rubber bumpers such as mine with ballasted coils, the extra tag is used to supply a 12V on cranking via a White / Green wire. Once the cranking stops this feed is broken & the coil is fed via the resistor wire that reduces the voltage down to 6V. Without looking ...

Re: Carb adjustment

Hi Stephen, Unfortunately North Berwick is along way from Warwickshire where i live! I note you have ordered some new braided type hose & i presume the copper piping that is attached to the inside wing between the fuel filter & the hose to the front carb. It is unlikely thst you are replacin...

Re: Carb adjustment

Hi Stephen, I would leave the needles for the time being. If a PO has fitted the K & N filters they may have changed the needles to adjust for the different fuel/air mix that is created by changing from the original saucepan type air filters. The idle screws (as opposed to the fast idle screws) ...

Re: Carb adjustment

Hi Stephen, Without knowing what you have changed since you had the car running on the road it is difficult to comment. Why did you think the car was running lean before you adjusted the carbs? Have you only adjusted the idle screws or have you also adjusted the mixture screws as well? If you haven't...

Re: Modern fuel

Hi Martin, Three further things to consider. I am not sure when the fuel filter was changed/ removed to examine. Was it put on the right way round? (From personal experience, i changed mine last year & neither i nor my neighbour who is also a classic car nut could see any direction of flow arrow ...
