Re: Sump bolts
Thanks Andrew, I don't have access to a crane, so I'm hopng that a jack will lift the engine high enough, otherwise, I will put up with the oil damp sump for a while. Car is now laid up till next April, and a few more jobs to do.

Sump bolts
Anybody found a way of undoing/tightening the front sump bolts without removing the bonnet, undoing the engine mountings, slinging the engine, and lifting it to get at the bolts? All my sump bolts that I could get at were slack and I'm assuming the front ones will be too. Perhaps a jack under the su...

Re: Exhaust pong in car.
Re choke cable and screenwash tubing hole. Many years ago (30/40) I bought a box of rubber grommets, and have used maybe half a dozen since then. Anyway, last evening I dug out the box, and guess what - there sat a grommet that fitted. Even had an extra wide channel to accommodate the radiused edge ...

Re: Exhaust pong in car.
Ta to David and Peter. No chrome trim on the exhaust, so not that. Hatchbact seal OK. No grommet on choke/washer hole so I've temporarily fitted a sponge seal. I'm begining to suspect the heater box seals, but that will have to wait until layup next month.

Re: Exhaust pong in car.
Thanks for both posts Charles. I've had a quick look, and all I have found so far is that the battery lid was loose with no rubber seal. I don't like the sound of the heater box seal fix! I'll see if I can spot anything there tomorrow. I want to check why I only have slow fan speed, so I will do tha...

Exhaust pong in car.
My 1978 GT is getting exhaust fumes in the car. Are there any well known points which could cause this, or is it just a matter of checking all possibilities?
Thanks, Dave
Thanks, Dave

Re: Back axle and panel light switch.
Small mishap today. Heater valve leaking, so new one ordered and old one reomoved. I thought while the heater valve was off, I would check out the vacuum advance not working, so out with the distributor. Dismantled the plates, and all seemed fine. Sucked on the vacuum pipe and loads of movement. Put...

Re: Back axle and panel light switch.
Quick update. Car running well now after carb check out and ignition timing check out. I 'm going to get a good few miles on it before the end of the month, and then lay up to do the axle oil seals and a thorough check so that I can start driving next April. Even the running on has now ceased! Forgo...
