Re: No brakes

Before you go the "no servo" route, check if there were no other factory alterations to the braking system e.g. different master cylinder, different calipers or diferent pads. 50 years ago I had a Mk2 Jag and the servo vacuum tank, strategicallyplaced under the front mudgaurd, rusted throu...

Re: Tailgate springs

My GT tailgate locks when fully opened, and needs a hefty pull down to close. I don't think the springs are involved in this (on mine anyway).

Re: Mowog pistons

Hi Ian, thanks for that. That's my opinion too, so I'll try and find somebody with an internal mic and confirm.

Mowog pistons

First, apologies for a non MGB topic, but I get more sense on here than any other tech board. I have recently swapped my Austin 7 for a Morris Minor 1098 Tourer, which was smoking, so I've taken the head off for a look see. The bores are clean with no ridge that I can detect. The pistons are marked ...

Re: Petrol additives

Thanks for that excellent link Ian. I'll give it a good perusal before supper.
"and as far as I could tell it worked fine." - this is the problem with these additives which is why I could do with reports from organisations like the FBHVC.

Re: Petrol additives

It's a 50 mile round trip to the nearest E5 stockist at Newton Stewart. I made a special trip there last weekend, and they didn't have any!
An additive that works would be welcome.

Petrol additives

Now that we have had E10 fuel for a few weeks, can anybody point me to reviews of the various (lead replacement, octane boosting, anti ethanol) additives. Hopefully by now some classic car magazines or organisations will have produced reports. Additives any good?, or snake oil. Any personal experien...

Re: unleaded petrol, 95 or 99

For what it is worth I use the cooking E5 stuffwith ignition retarded to 6 degrees btdc. I use the Lucas (not Joe) additive, and haven't noticed any problems apart from an occasional 2 bumps run on. I'm going to have to think again though when E10 comes in. No super available in my neck of the woods.
