Re: Running on suddenly.

Don't forget we had to retard the ignition slightly when unleaded fuel was introduced.

Re: Alloy wheel centres MG logo

Hi Martin, I think your wheels were made by GB Wheels and they were very popular for MGBs and Minis during the 1970s when there were not many affordable alloy wheels around. I have search the internet for contact details without luck, but it appears John Brown Wheels still sell GB wheels, although t...

Re: Light knocking noise in the engine.

I would suspect that the damage to the edge of the conrod and the camshaft was caused by the debris from the dropped valve, possibly the broken off valve head getting between the conrod and the camshaft. I take it the dropped valve happened before you bought the car but it appears not to have done t...

Re: Dragging disc brakes

The V8 pads use the same backing plate as the normal B, it is just the material is a bit longer but not if I remember correctly wider. I don't fit the anti squeal shims but just coat the back of the pad plate with a smear of Copperslip in the area where the caliper piston will touch it. Also I have ...

Re: Windscreen wipers

This sounds like a bad earth from the wiper motor - a bit like the strange things that happen to the lights when the light unit is not earthing properly. Try earthing the wiper motor by running a wire from the body of the motor to an unpainted bolt under the dashboard (there are quite a few. A bit o...

Re: Water pump size

You can adjust the distance in question by using a puller to increase it or a press to decrease it. I had to do this with the new pump I got, to make the 3 pulleys line up for the fan belt. You have a few mm each way to play with, but not cm! I too have searched against the part number you quoted an...

Re: Dragging disc brakes

Ian - I fitted new ones from MGBHive to my roadster. One word of caution though with new ones - the rubber dust seal seems to be too strong and they retract the piston back into the caliper, resulting in no brakes when you first push on the pedal! The do improve with miles (about 2000+) and you do g...

Re: Bonnet options ?

You really need access to an English Wheel to get the double curvature right, and the raised part in the centre that lines up with the MG badge on the grille will still be a problem. Now the show season looks like it will go ahead this year, find a bonnet that is in good condition and use that. Alum...

Remy - Since the introduction of GPRS, the DVLA won't provide the information about previous owners.

Re: Inexistent horn bullet terminal

Peter, see Clausager - top of page 146 - "1971 model year Changes to all cars. horn push returned to steering wheel centre" Ian F Hi Ian, Thanks for pointing that out. I assumed that the Sept 1969 (1970 model year) was the point of the change and I didn't read any further on. Cheers Pete
