Re: PDF attachments
Posting the file has worked but it doesn't open immediately - it appears as a download in the tray at the bottom left of the screen.

Hi Paul Is it possible to attach PDFs? I have a good document from Heritage, my insurers, about Agreed Values which would help the understanding of the thread posted by Ian Fozzard this evening. Also I wrote a long reply to this topic and although it autosaved along the way and I saved it again just...

Re: Oil cooler
Hi Pete . Many thanks for your , as usual , comprehensive reply. If l decide to dispense with the cooler l will follow up the leads you have listed for a replacement pipe . I tend to use a good Miller’s oil anyway . Change of subject , just wondered if you remember me from the days of MG Silverston...

Re: Oil cooler
Hi Ray, This has long been debated, as the early 3 bearing engine cars didn't have an oil cooler fitted as standard other than cars destined for hot climates, but it was available as a factory fit optional extra. From the introduction of the 5 bearing engine it was fitted as standard, but later for ...

Re: Original vehicle from an engine number
Thank you to all responders to date. To be more specific in answer to Ian. I have an MG BGT 1972. Original engine number as per the Heritage Cert I have was 18V-582-F-H/11205. ( fitted with twin HS4 carbs). I understand 582-F-H to be type 582 to UK spec (F) , High Compression (H). In 1997 a replace...

Re: Water pump size
Having just looked them up in the B&G catalogue on line and they thoughtfully provide pictures with a vernier measurement. The distances are GWP 115 is for 3 bearing engines 18G and 18GA and is 105.55mm; GWP 114 is 5 bearing engines 18GB to 18GG and is 106.01; GWP 130 is for 18V engines and is 8...

Re: Water pump size
I must admit I thought there were only two type - for chrome bumper cars and rubber bumper. The dimension shown is shorter on CB cars than RB cars because of the location of the radiator. I have found that this distance is somewhat variable and the face for the pulley needs to be adjusted to make th...

Re: best workshop manual
I would also add the MGB Restoration Manual by Lindsey Porter into the mix, as this tells you how to dismantle, check for wear and recondition components. I got the info for the tube rear axle mini overhaul from here.

Re: Original vehicle from an engine number
The chances of tracking down a specific vehicle from an engine number are no better than zero in reality. Engines have often been changed as a result of wear and another either bought or the original has been returned for a deposit to get the reconditioned one. As Ian says above, the type of car can...
