Re: Revs slow to drop

Take the dashpots off and give the inside a clean with carb cleaner. Check the pistons rise and fall without sticking. Failing this you might have an air leak into the inlet manifold somewhere. Check the thin pipe to the distributor is attached and the rubber ends are ok (both ends) and also the vac...

Re: Replacement Distributor

You will need to check the tachometer is compatible. On the face, it will either have 'RVI' or 'RVC', in both cases followed by a number. Early cars were RVI and these are not compatible - the needle oscillates all over the place! Help is at hand as they can be modified either by Speedy Cables who o...

Re: MGB 12V Battery Box

Whilst it has been many years since I've had the experience of an SU pump failing which was on an MGA, when they do so it is pretty inconvenient - like lane 3 on the M5 west of Birmingham! I was taught that electric and water don't mix - and this applies to cars as well! Also in modern traffic you w...

Re: MGB 12V Battery Box

I have a single 12v conversion and the battery is in the box behind the drivers seat. I guess this is the natural place for it to go as the main power lead to the starter motor soleniod then will fit. However my plan is to move the battery into the box behind the passenger seat, which will mean fitt...

Re: Engine Removal

I must admit I've always separated the engine from the gearbox on MGBs and MGAs before hoisting the engine from the car. This makes the hoisting easier and avoids the steep angle needed to get the combined unit out, plus reducing weight seemed important when all I had years ago was a Haltrac hoist. ...

Re: Fitting a works style hard top

There are 2 Works hardtops for sale on ebay at the moment, one looks as though it has been covered with vinyl, the other is black and has a Buy it now price. There is also a Clubmans Hardtop for much the same money, so you can compare the styles. It is always worth checking with sellers to see if th...

Re: Fitting a works style hard top

Hi Stuart As a newcomer to MGBs I would suggest you buy (if you haven't already) 'Original MGB' by Anders Ditlev Clausager (ISBN 978-1-906133-18-4) as this is full of details about the B (inc. the V8 and the MGC). It also includes some details about the hardtops, which were available from 1963 so ju...

Re: Fitting a works style hard top

Hi Stuart Welcome to MGB ownership - I'm sure you will find it to be a great car. You can certainly fit the aftermarket (or Clubmans) style hard top which Moss and others sell without removing the hood although you have to undo the side brackets with 3 screws through a plate into the body sides behi...

Re: PETROL

The current situation seems to be pretty well covered here: http://fbhvc.co.uk/legislation-and-fuels/fuel-information/ Lower down the page it also recommends additives to negate the problems of unleaded fuel, low octane ratings and ethanol. The recommendations have been made following extensive rese...
