I can't see any reason for not using modern oils in the engine and gearbox.

With paint so thin and no primer that just about lasted until the one year warranty expired!

I would say the silver was a dull gloss and the black inserts were matt if I remember correctly.

If your car does have a 'wire' axle, then I bet there'll be a queue of people who would gladly swap their bolt-on wheels and undercarriage for your wire set up!
