Re: LH overdrive overhaul
Thanks for the reply Peter, but not a feasible option I’m afraid as car in pieces including gearbox drained and overdrive solenoid and pressure relief valve already out!

LH overdrive overhaul
Hi Everyone, As part of my on going refurbishment of my 1975 MGB I am now tackling the overdrive unit. I am following guidance from the University Motors videos but sadly real life is not quite the same as car maintenance on line! I need to undo the none return valve plug but it is stuck tight and r...

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter
Thank you for your comments but I believe the mystery remains! I have an 18v engine. The oil filter hangs down and is a screw on disposable type not element in a canister. Being a lot more familiar with Minis we always used to change the filter heads to screw on ones on Mk1 versions as they were eas...

Re: 1975 MGB Oil Filter
Thanks for that Charles. My engine is still wearing it’s original number but I suspect has been overhauled at some time and has an unleaded head, it is painted red but with black oil pan. Do you think it is possible that someone has incorrectly fitted the oil filter head 180 degrees out of position?...

1975 MGB Oil Filter
I am seeking help with respect to the positioning of the oil filter on my 1975 built rubber bumper car. When I look at cars for sale on various internet sites, the engine bay photos of similar aged cars clearly show the oil filter screws down onto the filter head. The one on mine, by contrast, hangs...

Re: history for REL 271M
Hi Michael, congratulations on your purchase. Sorry I can’t help with the history of your car but feel a certain empathy with you! I purchased my car at the beginning of the year, clearly looked after and subject to a restoration at some time but no history available with the car! It is an early rub...

Re: new to MG and the forum
Hi Michael, I went looking for a chrome bumper GT about 6 months ago and ended up with a rubber bumper roadster! Why? Because I wanted, above all else, a car with a sound body shell. I am quite good with all things mechanical but welding and bodywork fill me with dread! So, advice, look for best bod...

Re: Roadster Windscreen to Body Seal
Peter/George, thank you for your replies. I read the MGB stuff write up which was very useful and opted, as they suggested, to use my existing bottom seal which was in relatively good condition and importantly already in the correct profile! I also made a minor adjustment to the bottom rail guide by...

Roadster Windscreen to Body Seal
I have to replace the cracked windscreen on my car and have a good second hand unit to refit. Before doing so the seal which fits in the windscreen lower rail and abuts the body must be renewed. Having just spent 2 fruitless hours with plenty of oil and waxoyl, I am defeated!!!!! Can anyone give me ...

Re: 2 Instrument Panel Rheostats?
Gentlemen, thank you so much for your responses. Further investigation shows that the centrally mounted ( brown knob) rheostat is coupled to the interior light which is in turn also controlled by a small black sliding switch on top of it. The discussion also made me wonder where the windscreen washe...
