Re: Desperate For Help Finding VIN #

Kevin Please note the comment I made in an earlier reply. "It was practice for British Servicemen to buy new cars when abroad but to UK spec to save purchase tax etc which was ok if they kept them for a period on return to the UK. No doubt a similar arrangment existed for US Servicemen so they ...

Re: Desperate For Help Finding VIN #

Following on from Chris's suggestion the the US Air force will have somewhere a full accident report of this incident. This may have details or a picture of the accident which may give clues to the cars identity. There are several websites as well as the airforce with such details. It was practice f...

Re: Original vehicle from an engine number

Useful information on engine numbers here https://www.mginfo.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/files/MG_Engine_numbers.pdf see page 4 MGB engines started with a G prefix eventually ending up with a 18V prefix. The info will also tell you if it is a non-MG engine. The MGB build records at Gaydon are stored by car n...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Peter Absolutely correct about MGB bodyshell manufacture locations in fact they arrived at Abingdon painted and partially trimmed. I wonder where the DVLA got their incorrect story from? The MIni I referred to earlier in this thread was initally rebuilt using a Heritage Shell (in fact we were the fi...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

However a coulpe of years later the Mini was hit by another vehicle causing it tobe in insurance company terms written off. The wreck was purchased from the insurance...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Mike My Bantam is probably a little later than the one you rode though I know the original owner used it to get to work at Paxmans Diesels in Colchester. A long story in between then and now. It is in fact a 1958 built 59 registered D7 the ninth one off the production line and the oldest D7 known to...

Re: Re-shell and DVLA

Hi Bumpa BMH Shells do NOT carry a VIN number these can only be issued by manufacturers of complete cars and in some obsure cases the DVLA. BMH shells have abody number - which is NOT a VIN number. The DVLA do not record body numbers. The problem of your friend is that they appear to have tried to u...
