Re: What’s the worst job on an MG

Agree with the circlip on the rear wheel cylinder. I resorted to bending the tabs a little in the vice to suit the groove better and levering on with a screwdriver. Wish I'd seen the socket and bolt solution first! Agree also that heater conundrom. I had published a complete article in MGOC magazine...

Re: Top end ticking

Noisy tappets solution. In April 2019 I had an article published in Enjoying MG, the monthly publication to MGOC members. I have been a member there since the 70's The article described why wear and hence valve clearances occurs and a simple solution requiring few tools on how to remedy. My MGB engi...

Re: Heater Control Valve

Good trick for draining down to do heater valve is to disconnect heater hose at front of engine and insert a smaller tube down to and inside the bottom hose and siphon gently. Try not to get a mouthful!

Re: More newbie questions: Crankcase breather and oil pressure gauge flickering

Hello Steve. Mine flickers too when hot and has done for 47 years and over 3 engines! I think its caused by the feed to the rocker box which is only fed when the camshaft hole through which the oil flows, is in line causing an on off effect. Do check those rubber pipes and Y to the carbs for blockag...

Re: Homemade Fog / Spot Light Rocker Switch

I used a similar trick to change a lighting rocker to one for my upgraded two speed heater fan. The logo had worn off already. Clipped off unwanted tabs too so no future confusion.

Re: Fuel tank change

I did the same as Vic Butler above some 35 yrs ago and its still fine. A strip of compressible rubber eg rubber hose can close the gap along the front edge when installing to prevent road grit etc getting between tank and floor. Always dip nuts and bolts in Waxoyl whenever reassembling everything. B...

Re: Gearstick Hiss

All MGB gearboxes have this hiss, even when new. I suspect you need to change the nylon cup that snaps onto the ball at the bottom end of the stick.
Probably gone hard and split. Easily replaced from inside the car. Hope this helps

Re: Reverse not working after overdrive stopped working?

Couple of tips worth looking into before removal if its the LH type. Remove the SMALL plate which has the solenoid inside which will drop down. Then remove the plunger it operates and at the top end is a very small 'o' ring which may have come off or become hardened. I recall there is a ball bearing...

Re: Dashboard Lights

Yes I obtained my LEDs from classiccarleds.co.uk. I believe their 'testbed car' is an MGB GT. I have changed headlights, sidelights (white) including the twin filament stoplights (red), reversing lights (white) and dashboard (warm white). Not bothered with the indicators as a bit more difficult. Tak...
