Re: Respray costs

Hi Geoff, a very difficult question! # the spraying is only one part of the cost of course. # the stripdown of the body - are you going to remove everything and do a thorough job? Alternative is to just do a lot of masking and just do the external panels. #changing the colour? If so then you really ...

Re: Hood captive nuts

Thanks for posting this info, not useful to me as I have a BGT, but worth knowing about. Something useful from Moss!

Re: MG Mechanic/Garage West Yorkshire

I can't help directly Nik - I have looked in the MGCC trade directory, but I would recommend contacting one of the Yorkshire Centres of the club, they must know of reliable places for work on classic MGs.

Re: Rebuilt Engine Burning Oil

That's some progress I think Nik. I hope that the bores have been honed correctly to help bedding in, and I don't want to be unduly pessimistic, but that is quite a difference in readings and I wouldn't expect that on a newly rebuilt engine. I have built several A series and B series engines and not...

Re: Rebuilt Engine Burning Oil

I am afraid I am going to just be an old cynic/grumpy old man here, but I am sceptical about the repair work said to have been done - in such a short time? Have you got the better valve stem seals fitted? They are visible if you take off the rocker cover - small rubber caps fitted onto the top of th...

Re: Rebuilt Engine Burning Oil

If it smokes under acceleration, it is telling you that it smokes when cylinder pressures are high, which points at the rings. If it smokes under deceleration on the overrun, it points at the valve stem seals.

This always was the guide I worked by

Re: Rebuilt Engine Burning Oil

Difficult to diagnose remotely, sounds like it could be rings. Be aware that rings may take a while to bed in, and may burn oil initially. Putting new rings in is quite a lengthy and expensive job - did they charge you for doing it? Was it a reputable engine builder, as some may do a poor job. Final...

Re: Additional fuse options

Many thanks for that! Definitely looks like that kink would be necessary here.......
So we have two plausible explanations I think?
