Re: Lucas bullets

I don't think anything on our MGs was designed to last 40 years! The bullet connectors on my 61 Midget have had quite a bit of attention and replacement, whilst those on my '72 BGT are (as far as I can recall - I have owned the BGT since 1978) original. I may have replaced some whilst doing major bo...

Re: Squeaking wheel

I would probably just replace the calipers, it sounds to me as if it could be a sticking piston not retracting. This causes the pad to rest lightly on the disc. You could: # check the disc run-out with a dial gauge # work the pistons in and out after examining them for corrosion and scoring. Add som...

Thicker washers are available to take up the wear, but you must

Re: Respray costs

I have to agree with Rommel here, a freshly resprayed car would always ring alarm bells for me, unless of course it was done as part of a comprehensive and documented restoration.

Re: Respray costs

Hi Geoff, a very difficult question! # the spraying is only one part of the cost of course. # the stripdown of the body - are you going to remove everything and do a thorough job? Alternative is to just do a lot of masking and just do the external panels. #changing the colour? If so then you really ...

Re: Hood captive nuts

Thanks for posting this info, not useful to me as I have a BGT, but worth knowing about. Something useful from Moss!

Re: MG Mechanic/Garage West Yorkshire

I can't help directly Nik - I have looked in the MGCC trade directory, but I would recommend contacting one of the Yorkshire Centres of the club, they must know of reliable places for work on classic MGs.

Re: Rebuilt Engine Burning Oil

That's some progress I think Nik. I hope that the bores have been honed correctly to help bedding in, and I don't want to be unduly pessimistic, but that is quite a difference in readings and I wouldn't expect that on a newly rebuilt engine. I have built several A series and B series engines and not...
