Re: Oil cooler

The B series is a rattley old engine not made to the tighter tolerances of a modern engine. I'm sure the cooler keeps the viscosity of the oil up which helps. I take Bumpa;s point about his thermostat rarely opening on the cooler circuit. My cooler seems to get fairly hot but you can still bear to p...

Re: DIY power steering write up ?

I'd be interested in that. I do believe that the MGB needs power steering. I find it hard work at low speed. I have 175 tyres pumped up to 28 psi. My wife refuses to drive the B back from the pub which limits my consumption. She will drive the modern TF. What a super job the EPAS is on that car.

Re: Technical Day 2024

Its a fair drag for those of us South of Birmingham. It does seem that both the B and Midget registers have become very Oxfordshirecentric. I appreciate its hard for Registers because its not possible to cover the whole country but taking the F register as example they have regional groups. If we lo...

Re: Aluminium radiator

Stick with the copper and brass type they are a much better conductor of heat than aluminium.

Re: MGOC 6 volt batteries?

I've gone to the single 12v as type 063 as recommended on the register website. 4year warranty, still going strong now its run out. Simple to fit, just needs the earth strap moving. I found with the six volt that I was replacing one or the other every couple of years and they are expensive, much mor...

Re: electronic ignition

I fitted a 123 electronic distributor to my friends BGT. I selected advance curve 2 which is the standard pre72 (40897) curve. I always set timing to 20 deg BTDC at 1000 rpm (vacuum disconnected), there the engine runs smoothly (avoids fluttering about). He was tickled pink with it. The car pulled w...

Re: Suddenly not running right.

On the Friday before the MG Social at Gaydon last week, I experienced very similar symptoms. The car would start OK and idle perfectly, but soon as it was on-load it would splutter. I slept on it and decided I would look at ignition first to rule it out of my enquiries before going to fuel. It turne...

Re: ULEZ

All historic vehicles should be exempt (i.e. over 40 years old) as are EU4 petrol engined cars and EU6 diesels (those with Selective Catalytic Reduction - AdBlu). That means all petrol engined cars newer that 16 years old and Diesels newer than 6 years old. Unfortunately its the diesels without SCR ...

Re: Insurance

Cherished insurance are a subsidiary of A-Plan and I'm pretty sure my policy is with KGM. Cherished are supposed to give a discount for MG Car Club members. I have both my MGB and MGTF (modern) on the same policy for myself and my wife with them. My premium was a couple of hundred quid which is OK b...
