To me ,£30 for an electronic ignition system Iis ominously cheap. My 1977 MGB GT has a distributor rebuilt by the Distributor Doctor and fitted with Lumenition Optronic and a Lumenition ballast resistor coil.

I reckon that not all the high torque starter motors available are of good quality. WOSP in my opinion is the best one.
The one on my Land Rover spins the engine over faster than the tickover speed.

I haven't fitted one to my MG but have a WOSP high torque starter on my Land Rover and am impressed with it. It's mich smaller than the standard bulky one and draws less current, about 1,400 amps. On my previous MGB GT there was a pinholed core plug which did the same to the distributor.

Why not go for Manor Garages 12v conversion? More power and
a wider choice of batteries?

Charles suggested electrical which could be the fuel pump. Make sure both wires to it are still intact and that nothing is loose.

Worth checking if both dashpots in the carburettors are moving freely. It seems odd but the jolt must have upset something. I presume the throttle is opening correctly?
