I'd SORN it in the UK and hire a car in the Channel Islands to save the inevitable bureaucracy you'll encounter.
Get someone to start it regularly and get insurance for laid up cover.

Re: electronic ignition
I had a disastrous experience with a 123: on my Series 3 Land Rover. Power was down despite setting it up per the book. The engine developed a misfire so I removed the 123;, contacted the supplier who told me to return it. As a stopgap I fitted a standard correct distributor with Charles Kettering's...

Re: electronic ignition
I''ve had bad experiences with cheapo parts and I now always buy the best. This applies to both MG and Land Rover parts. How come a copy carburettor for a Land Rover retails here at about £50 when it comes from China.? It was utter rubbish. Some parts for older Land Rovers are still available from t...

Re: electronic ignition
To me ,£30 for an electronic ignition system Iis ominously cheap. My 1977 MGB GT has a distributor rebuilt by the Distributor Doctor and fitted with Lumenition Optronic and a Lumenition ballast resistor coil.

Re: High torque starter
I reckon that not all the high torque starter motors available are of good quality. WOSP in my opinion is the best one.
The one on my Land Rover spins the engine over faster than the tickover speed.

Re: High torque starter
I haven't fitted one to my MG but have a WOSP high torque starter on my Land Rover and am impressed with it. It's mich smaller than the standard bulky one and draws less current, about 1,400 amps. Well worth the expense. If fitting it to a rubber bumper B with the ballast resistor ignition make sure...

Re: Suddenly not running right.
On my previous MGB GT there was a pinholed core plug which did the same to the distributor.

Why not go for Manor Garages 12v conversion? More power and
a wider choice of batteries?

Re: Suddenly not running right.
Charles suggested electrical which could be the fuel pump. Make sure both wires to it are still intact and that nothing is loose.

Re: Suddenly not running right.
Worth checking if both dashpots in the carburettors are moving freely. It seems odd but the jolt must have upset something. I presume the throttle is opening correctly?
