Re: Brake light switch

The hydraulic switch in my 1972 BGT failed about 7 yeas ago, and by the look of it was original, so had lasted well, but I understood that the modern day switch a replacement pattern part were of poor quality, so I acquired a relay specially made for the job which included the cable and connectors c...

Re: EBC Brake pads - Dust and Squeal

I had same problem with EBC pads & solid discs, terrible squeal! like metal to metal grind.. Absolutely terrible.. My neighbour an AA patrolman suggested it sounded like hard pad and said his daughter had the problem in her B with brake squeal, and supposedly cured it by fabricating some shims o...

Re: Rev drop when clutch engages

Mine also does it on a recent engine, idle speed varies from 850 to 1000 RPM but I put that down to wear in carb spindles and may drop slightly when clutch pressed and of course when fan cuts in but yours seems excessive, must be annoying..

Re: Electronic Ignition, yes or no?

Yes, had electronic module and now have a CSI electronic dissy installed for a number of years and works well.. never had a failure with electronic ignition, but replacement parts quality for points ignition have become unreliable with aftermarket condensers (capacitors) failing early.. as you say, ...

Re: unleaded petrol, 95 or 99

Have used Shell Vpower for years and runs great, use super unleaded E5 in the MG when the E10 comes in, it's the protection grade for our classics. I now have an unleaded head engine as the bottom end was worn, but never worried too much about valve seat wear anyway on the old engine anyway. On an o...

Re: EBC Brake pads - Dust and Squeal

Andrew, that's interesting to know.. I have at the moment shims that are cut from thin sheet aluminium which my good neighbour AA patrolman recommended as they cured the squeal on his daughters BGT, but it hasn't eradicated the noise fully on mine but remains an improvement over the noise it was and...

Re: Mild vacuum leak, replace HS4 carbs?

Ian I have done the plug check in the past, remember the ridge of the threads being a tad sooty and centre electrode a bit grey, so maybe slightly weak? Maybe due to k&n filters & (as fitted by po years ago along with sports exhaust) and not helped by vaccum leak at carb spindles? Have read ...

Re: Running on suddenly.

I had a bit of running on and pinking when my engine was new, the modern fuels don't help, I had to retard the timing slightly. It would also run very hot under load
Now it's done about 5k miles it's settled down, runs cooler and runs fine.

Re: Mild vacuum leak, replace HS4 carbs?

Thanks for the reply..
Everything else on the GT is fine timing, tappets and the dissy replaced in recent years with a CSI electronic effort..
