Alternative calipers

Back along time ago I was a student at City of Birmingham Polytechnic. The Poly library used to take Autocar. Some time around about 1980 there was an article in Autocar about Bill Nicholson's MGB. One of the things I remember about the article is that he had fitted brake 3 pot calipers from an earl...

Thread on the back of a speedo

On the rear of the Smiths speedo in an MGB is a threaded sleeve that the collar on the outer of the speedo cable screws onto. Can anyone tell me what the diameter is? Even better if you can identify the thread as well. Brantz have an adapter which they say is for Smiths and Jaeger with an M12 x 1mm ...

Re: Green trim example wanted

Hello Walter,

I think you will struggle to find any pictures of MGBs with green trim. As far as I am aware it was never a factory trim colour. I don't remember ever having seen an MGB with green trim.

Re: Tow eye for track days

My Feb '74 chrome bumper roadster has "towing" eyes back and front fixed to the bumper irons. It was an export car so they my have been export only at the time. It is possible they were intended just for lashing but they are more substantial that the ones on the Jensen GT that I used to ha...

Windscreen - which to buy

Some time ago I replaced the windscreen on my 1974 CB MGB roadster. The original screen had lots of micro chips and little scratches which would catch the lights of other traffic. So I bought a screen for well less than £100. It was laminated but thinner than the original screen. Recently, I went on...

Re: Sump drain washer

In the end I couldn't get one locally. I wanted to use the car so I couldn't wait for one to come in the post. Replaced the sump plug with the old washer and some thread sealant. Not leaking yet!

Sump drain washer

Hello everyone. I am starting to accumulate the parts for the annual service on my B. I like to have them all ready in advance to minimise the vehicle off road time. My local motor factor has sump plug washers by size. Can anyone tell me the internal diameter of the sump plug washer on a 5 bearing B...

Re: Windscreen adjustment

Where the 2 large bolts, each side, pass through the bodywork the holes are larger than the diameter of the bolt. So there is some flexibility available. I suggest loosening the main bolts both sides and also the 2 smaller bolts in the middle. Sufficiently for the screen to move but not so its flopp...
