There is nothing "sporty" about any current offerings - I now take the view that "MG" should have stopped in 2005.

Hear, hear Geoff. MG should have gone with dignity not have the ignominy of being some faceless Chinese junk, the makers of which have no interest in the history of the marque, they have made it a laughing stock.

No thank you John. 3 cylinder 1 litre automatic? What a comedown. There is one in my locality and it's just another faceless blob. For that sort of money I could get a half decent MGC GT. At least 4 cylinders and 4 manual gears with overdrive is far superior and much more fun to drive.

There's no fun in driving it. It's a go faster milk float.
Now, picture the scene. It's a cold and wet night. You're driving your go faster milk float on a motorway. All electrical components have to be used and the battery indicator is going down nearly as quickly as the depreciation. There's a sign, service area 5 miles ahead with charging points. You've got 20 miles left. You enter the service area. There are 5 charging points all occupied and 10 go faster milk floats in the queue. Meanwhile a real MG comes in behind fills up and is on its way.
Another question. Is the electricity used for charging subject to fuel tax and how is it generated.
It's a no brainer!!!

Sadly if you want a sporting family car or a sports car you won't be going to an MG Motor dealer in the near future.
On the electric side I have recently organised a Tour for our natter through the surrounding countryside of Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire. Total distance from start to finish 165.6 miles. Range of the MG EV 163 miles. So 2.6 miles to walk to get to the finish! No chance to recharge at the start/ finish venue or at any of the stops en-route, and you had to get to and from the start/finish venue as well. For my MGB no problem and it had another 150+ miles of fuel left after the run.
I have thought for a long time the EV technology is a blind alley for mass transport because besides the issue of where is all the electricity going to come from there is question of the earth having somewhat limited resources of lithium - certainly a lot less than all the oil that is left!

Well said Peter. Having owned my MGB GT since 1979 and my Land Rover since 1986 with a chassis replacement in 1997, both are low emission vehicles as by not continually buying new cars, I've contributed very little to emissions.
In the future will we be seeing an electric recovery truck being sent out to recover an electric car with a flat battery?
