Dribble Coca Cola down the studs and leave overnight. When I had to remove the one on my 77 car I bought a spare first and then used a round piece of wood through the hose aperture and gently wiggled it about. It eventually came off undamaged. When replacing smear copper grease on the studs which stops the electrolytic reaction between the steel and aluminium.

Hi Paul,
Like Vic,i purchase a new stat housing before removing the old one. Having done it probably 4 times now on my 1980 Roadster i also use a lever through the watef elbow, in conjunction with using a chisel with a few taps oa a heavy mallet working round the three sides between the housing /gasket/ block until it starts to lift off.
Good luck.
Charles
