This weekend, I will mostly be…

Post by DickBrowne »

Trying to eliminate the annoying steering knock on my GT.

Having sorted the wheel bearings, without success, I’m going full monty on it.

New steering column top and bottom bushes, new column U/J, new rack, new track rod ends. That should do it.

Whilst I’m in there, I’ve got a new radiator to go in and I’m waiting for new oil cooler lines to arrive.

Just to finish making it look pretty, I’ve got some restored air filters and an alloy rocker cover.

If anybody needs me this weekend, I suspect I’ll be in the garage! Except for a brief hiatus when I watch England’s glorious rugbyists hand the Jocks a lesson they may not notice this afternoon…

I’ll mainly be tidying the garage, installing some power sockets around my bench and clearing space.

22years in this house and I’m only getting the garage into shape now.

I don't know what it's like in County Down, but admitting in public that space is being cleared in the garage is tantamount to inviting the deposit of other people's "stuff". Beware!!!!

How is operation clear-up going? I'm pretty much done with the "taking old stuff out" phase of my weekend, and this afternoon will be rebuilding the U/J and fitting the new steering components. The cooling side of things will have to wait until, I suspect, next weekend because that part of the project has entered the "ordering stuff I didn't think I needed" phase.

So, new thermostat, stat housing, studs and bolts and a new water pump (because, well, why not?) are all on the way, along with the second new bottom hose (I didn't realise until yesterday that I have the later the fitted...). Perfect setup for next weekend, I reckon!

Lol, I don’t accept begging requests for storage that often.

Sounds like you’re making progress Dick.
I’m still clearing up but I can finally see the work bench!

I’ve a few bits still to fit before first start attempt.
Maybe this weekend…..
