MGB GT 1975 Speedo cable into gearbox query

Hi. I have the above car that I’m restoring and the gearbox has leaked all over the place since buying, but in stripping it down I found that when I removed the speedo cable from the gearbox end by removing a 1screw clamp, that there was no seal under the abutting faces. I think this area is open to the gearbox oil as loads poured out when I released it so, I’m guessing there should be a seal? Can’t see one on various parts sites and wondered if I can be put straight on the matter! Cheers. Garry.
