Thank you for the advice and tips. For the time being I’ve reattached the Walnut veneer and I’m going to use the winter to make a decision on whether to repair in situ or fully replace the dashboard (I’ve been contemplating replacing it with an earlier toggle switch dashboard).
Whichever option I go for though, I suspect I won’t be trying the work until temperatures improve.
@Chris: I will let you know next year as and when I remove the panelling. The only thing I would say is that there’s 40 years of wear and the occasional knock on the veneer - so they aren’t in the greatest condition. But I’ll get some photos at the time for you.
