Hi Steve. I am currently looking over the options from other brokers, I have had a little too much inconsistency from my current providers!

I have found some explicit inclusions of agreed value and salvage retention clauses which is the sort of thing I'm after, together with legal expenses cover and a limited mileage.

No decisions yet, but I suspect I will move my policy.

Thanks Peter. Not my ideal way to spend a day, fortunately it's rainy and cold outside!!

Must admit I am not entirely happy with the way the “new” company is running at the moment, however, I guess as a long term thing I am probably a little different from yourself as I am going to sell the B within the next year so will lose my custom anyway.

Hi Ian
To pick up on some of the points you have raised.
Agreed Value and Salvage Retention - You will not have the right to retain any car that has been written off in Categories A or B (of the current list) as these have to be destroyed. In the case of a Category B write off I believe the dismantlers can remove certain parts if the have not been damaged.
Limited Mileage - I think this has been made a mandatory feature because some people have abused the reasoning behind Classic Car Policies and have used their cars for business use and going to and from work. This has resulted in the wording being tightened up, but it was always the intention that a classic car would only be used for social purposes.
I did notice that my renewal last year excluded use on 'any motor racing circuit', and I suspect that the increase in Track Days and people having crashes from which they have made a claim, has brought about this change. Given I raced for 15 years and the car wasn't insured this doesn't altogether bother me, but I have to be prepared to take the hit in my wallet as well as the barrier if I crash. This may be reflected in the personal liabilities sections as well.
I also noticed that my insurers this year are LV= (Heritage are just brokers) and they insure my other 2 cars, both of which I can use in Road Rallies! I might try them directly for a quote in August.

My Equity Red Star policy through Peter James clearly states "Unlimited Mileage", but commuting to your place of work is excluded as is all competitive use.
