I bet not a lot of thought has been given to this!

Over the years for one reason or another I seem to have acquired a few of these sponges and have actually started using them. I notice they are very quick to pick up dirt and one's first thought is to throw them away in case the dirt is abrasive and scratched the paintwork.

Rather than waste Roger Boys' great generosity in such a profligate way I decided to try washing them!

All you need is the kitchen sink when your lady of the house is not using it, some Fairy Liquid and some warm water.

Be as generous as you dare with the Fairy Liquid - but NOT so generous that the lady of the house notices how much you've used.

Dunk the sponges - one at a time is best - in the soapy water, squash them down flat as many times as you feel you can manage so as to get the soap really well into them, then lift them out and squeeze all the water out. Do this as many times as necessary until all the dirty marks have disappeared. If you have a lot of really dirty sponges you may need to change the water!

Once all the sponges have been treated thus give them a thorough rinsing in lukewarm water - I say lukewarm because cold water can be SO hard on the hands and you need to do lots of hand squeezing to get rid of the soap.

Once you are satisfied they are all nice and clean - clean enough to hand back to Roger Boys for handing out at the next event - set them out to dry in a clean warm place. SIMPLES!

Very competent technical topic Roger. Just used one to grout in a bathroom floor and you are right they rinse out very well so can be trusted on paintwork.
