Since a few years I am trying to get information about the first UK registration number and/or first owner of my MGB (1971), which I imported in Belgium in September 2007. DVLA and other authorities cannot or will not give me the information.
Any other information about the car is more than welcome.

Destination (dealer) : T. Shipdale Ltd, Nottingham
Chassis nr: G-HN5/233282-G
Original color exterior : Midnight Blue
Exported to Holland on November 17th 1986.

Noticed this enquiry on the MG Experience site too.

According to the Kithead Trust the registration records for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (two difference registration authorities)
no longer exist.

Have you emailed the MGCC MGB Register Registrar registrar@mgb-register.org ?

The only other way is to find the old import papers and research from these

I may be a little out of date here but if you have the chassis/engine number etc. is it still possible you could get a Heritage Certificate which will give you more information about the car as well as, possibly, the original registration number?

I got my certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust in 1991 - I know it was a long time ago, but do these still exist?

If they do they give you just about everything.

Just had a look online, heritage certificates are still available from the Heritage Motor centre, they just need the chassis number and upon receipt of the fee should be able to give you most if not all the information you're looking for, here's the link http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ ... rtificate/ Good Luck Pierre

The Heritage certificate will ONLY give details of the cars build history and any extras fitted and initial distributor or dealer.

It will not and cannot give details of its UK registration and owners unless it was registered as a BMC/BL Management car.

Owners can ask to have the cars current registration added to the certificate.

Indeed I got the certificate in 2007 in order to register the car in Belgium, it gives me some interesting information as you know, but unfortunately nothing about the registration nr....
Hi Georges,

I nearly tried every authority in this matter and all without positive result. The previous Dutch owner did not have a lot of import documents, so I guess it will be a dead end street unfortunately.
However, I do hope to get an answer from someone who might be remember the car.....
