I've now read more about the Monte Carlo Historique on the ACM website, where there are daily press releases. There were 8 starters from Paisley in the Historique Rally, of which 7 made it to Monte Carlo, so I suspect the other 65 took part in the Heritage Run finishing at Reims. I believe there was heavy snow in northern France, so was probably a tougher 'tour' than many expected.

Fed up with passengers complaining they were cold - I had the hard top on too - so I have taken the heater out to refurbish.

I can tell it's been out before - the cheesehead posidrive drive screw under the heater motor was missing. Surpisingly the matrix is dated 03 65 (it's an April 65 car) so still the original. Has some signs of external rust - maybe a little leak. The bulkhead and heater casing are fine just need a good clean and repaint.

* the forum refuses to accept the word "for a bolt with a screwdriver head but it is not a bolt"

The mk1 heater has a different demister tube arrangement compared with later cars - no foam block - the tubes were not fitted correctly so at least half the heated air was going elsewhere. The heater control flat was not moving correctly either.

Now to get the casing stripped and painted/powder coated and to fit a new matrix - oh what fun!

Last weekend and probably for the next couple of weekends I am sorting out the passenger door shut lines (might even replace the door!) and fitting the ALDON electronic distributor I bought last week. I managed to get the B out for a run down to Romsey and back just to blow the cobwebs out of her (and me).

Did you get the rims off James?
There seems little option but to lever near the bottom of the ring with a screwdriver using the curve of the wing as a fulcrum, and a thick pad to protect the paint. Note that sound wings are required to perform this manoeuvre! At the same time, pressing down hard on the top of the ring with the other hand can help. This should ease the bottom of the ring forward enough for you to see what is going on inside.

Went on the Valentines treasure hunt run with South East region, thoroughly enjoyed it, but didn't do to well with the scoring with only 10 points, lol, but was our first time at this.

Refitted the powder coated heater with new matrix inside and control cable.
The whole car is warm as toast as the hardtop is on.
Now let the passengers complain!

I competed in the saltire Classic Rally, based in Tayside Scotland, today we covered 120 plus miles over 3 regularities and 17 stages ands managed to get 1st in class and 4th overall out of 40 cars, the MGB has just become an Escort and midget beater !!.

Well done Ian winning your Class on the Saltire Rally in your MGB.
All I did over the weekend was to go to the MG Show at Stoneleigh, good to see so many MG friends from the UK, Germany and the USA.
Next event MGCC Council meeting and the MGB Register AGM in. Couple of weeks time..

A quick whizz up the M40 to Stoneleigh in the ZR to help man the MGs on Track stand. A good day enjoyed and saw many friends from the MG world ! Sadly the V8 stayed at home. Roll on next Tuesday.

Started to use a Meguiar's G220v2 Dual Action Machine with the first cut compound.
Still got the polishing and wax to do before the spring runs.
