Heritage certificate

Post by djgreen »

Just got my heritage cert from the Trust
Disappointed that it comes back with a build date of 1970. It is on a J plate so I thought it could be but I hoped it was late 1969 - there were some pointers and it was a good year- still 1970 was interesting 🧐
Correction made to profile

1970 was a much better year in Bordeaux!! In fact, one of the best 😊

lol - that's good to know 😉 (FYI - I prefer Chablis but I've been known to appreciate a white Bordeaux !)

Hi,
I have recently bought an MGB LE, it is recorded on the MGB register.
My question is the car was built in 1980 but not registered till 1985. Which year does the Heritage certificate recognise?

Hi Nigel,
The heritage will detail the built date, not when it was first registered. A heritage certificate is required if you wish to tax it as historic. I'm sure it goes from built and not registered. It did but this may have changed.

I believe that's all correct Paul. Easily checked (for tax and MoT purposes) by consulting the DVLA website.

Gents,
Thank you for your answers that does help me. Once Heritage reopens I will be applying for the certificate.
My car is interesting, it wasn't registered until 1985 it now carries a personised plate.

Welcome to the MGB forum, I would recommend joining MGCC (the parent body for this forum). Membership of a club gives you a discount on insurance, which is the only annual cost of running a classic!!
Would be interesting to know where your B was in the first 5 years? Perhaps on display in a dealership. You should ascertain what the build number is - it just might be a special car, one of the last for instance. Keep us informed,

Best regards
