Just an aside ...I always thought more was better, but could never understand why the revs on my 64 B crept up whilst idling in traffic.
I've found out the hard way that if you overfill the dashpots the revs creep up from a normal idle to about 1500 revs.

The techies on here will probably be able to explain why.

As far as which oil to use, I went to one of John Twist's lectures where he recommended 20/50 engine oil, I have used all sorts over the 40 years of ownership and can't say I noticed a difference. Even tried Castrol R in the hope of getting the aroma!

The hollow tube in the piston is the only place which needs oil. If you use very light oil it can be shot out when the throttle opens, and if you overfill it will naturally spill out.
Too much oil where it shouldn't be and causing the piston to stick too high in the dashpot is the only reason I can think of for an increase in revs at idle?
