Boot Carpet Choice

Post by Paul Heffernan »

Hi

Looking for a little advice please. I'd like to fit a boot carpet set and having scoured the internet there seems to be quite a few choices.

So my first question is - The MGOC version seems quite reasonable to me, but can anyone please give me a pointer towards any other decent quality (I'm not thinking absolute premium here, nor the cheap and nasty) options?

Secondly, the option between moulded or 10 peice sets. The sales pitch suggests the moulded versions are far simpler to fit. Is the fitting of the non moulded version at all difficult - ie so as to warrant the extra cost?

Sorry for the rather basic question, I dare say they [the questions] will improve in proportion to the duration of my ownership of the car!

Hi Paul,
Moss are having a winter sale with up to 30% off. I haven't bought carpets from them but I've been very satisfied with what I have bought. I don't think they sell rubbish. You should also consider David Manners, just by junction 2 of the M5, so you can save on postage. MGCC members get 15% of all spares there. I'm pretty sure my friend used the MGOC to re-trim his car. He seems pleased.

You are pretty close to me and I know the Coach and Horses which is very easy for me to get to. We did the North Worcs Natter (meets at the Dog in Harvington) Chilly Willy run yesterday which was pretty good. The Arden group had one as well. Will be cleaning the mud off my B this afternoon. I didn't Invite you along because I guessed you hadn't taken delivery of your car.

I have a BGT so don't know what carpets may be available for the roadster boot (not standard from the factory?), but I thought I should say that in my experience the moulded carpets are well worth the small premium.
I have fitted moulded carpets to my BGT and non-moulded to my MK 1 midget so I have experience of both.
For the midget I had to do a lot of cutting and folding and glueing to get anything approaching an acceptable finish.

Thanks Paul,
I'll check out the options you've provided. I'd not heard of Dave Manners, I always prefer to use local small suppliers, so that's particularly interesting, thank you.

So, ref taking delivery. The MG is currently comfy and warm in my garage! I picked her up this afternoon. Must admit to being a little bit more than excited, and at my age that's quite a thing ha ha!

So, please yes, let's meet at The Coach and Horses as soon as you're free and able. My current plan is to only drive in the dry, but it's only 10 minutes away, so I'm certainly up for that. Also, looking forward to other meets and runs for sure.

Regards

Paul

Manners are the cheapest at £116 for moulded or £61 for non moulded, but this doesn't mean they are the best. You could go up and take a look and see what you think.

Hi ,
I fully carpetted my roadster & obtained the set from PJM MOTORS. Good result which only took me 2 or 3 hours. The black chose matches the cabin on my roadster. Stops any ratlling of items in the boot as well. They have a web site & are helpful on the phone. (They have also supplied & fitted replacement seats & repaired my original hood).
Cheers . Charles

I was supplied with a ten part set which enabled a neat installation piece by piece, which would have been much harder if just a one piece given the use of glue! (The only trimming i had to do was on the rear wall of the boot (number plate/ reverse light).

Well its a small MG world. Yvonne, the lady who runs PJM Auto Trimmers in Market Drayton is the previous owner of my MGTF. We have owned the car 10 years now and its performed the job as our second every day car without any problems. It stood outside for that time and is only now starting to bubble up slightly around the rear wheel arches. I have driven the car to Lake Garda. I once bought a seat bolster for my MGB from Yvonne before I acquired her car. I have a friend who has used them for seats and he was satisfied. They seem competitive price wise.
