Post by Mario60 »

Hi
My engine on my MGB is starting to miss especially when it is going up hill. Any suggestions as to what might this be? Thanks as usual for your help

Regards

Is it a regular misfire or does it occur now and again? You need to eliminate items. Check plug leads and plugs, connections to the coil and those to and from the electronic ignition. Is it a Lumenition Optronic with the 3 pin connector from distributor to module. Check the carbon brush inside the distributor cap and the rotor arm and contacts in the cap. If the rotor arm is a black one it's best to replace it with the red type which are far superior.
Let us know how you get on.

Afternoon Mario.
I never deal on line. However for rotor arms, distributor caps etc The Distributor Doctor is very good. Just enter his name into a search engine.
One more possibility is that it might be fuel related. Have you got an inline fuel filter? If so, it could be worth changing it.

Hi

Last night looked into the documentation that came with the car and now know that it has an Accuspark electronic distributor 25D. Sent an email to Accuspark about this and they came back that I need to replace the electronic module which is Kit 4 from the below link:

http://accuspark.co.uk/kit_search.html

It looks like a complete set to me. Appreciate your feed back

Thanks

Years ago I used a fully electronic distributor on my Land Rover and it was rubbish. I reverted to points and condenser and immediately power was restored.
My Stage 2 BGT has a modified 43D4 distributor, fitted with vacuum advance and calibrated by the Distributor Doctor and a Lumenition Optronic system. The Land Rover has its standard 45D4 distributor overhauled by the Doctor and Pertronix electronic ignition.
I've had no experience of Accuspark nor do I know anyone who's had one fitted
